Vocational Opportunities, Inc. offers a variety
of programs to fit our clients’ needs. These programs
are implemented on an individual basis and are geared to help
clients establish good work habits and the interpersonal skills
they need on the job.
Work adjustment
is the next step after completing vocational evaluation. It
is designed to help clients improve in targeted areas to maximize
potential for competitive employment. Techniques used include
situational assessment in work areas, time studies, and job
readiness training.
Compensatory Education
is a community college program, offered through
Rowan-Cabarrus, designed specifically for people with disabilities. Clients
receive training in an educational setting in five target domains such as
Language, Math, Community Living, Consumer Education, and Money Management.
all classes are held onsite at RVO.
Job Placement/Job
Coaching. This is a short-term program
that assists clients with acquiring and maintaining employment.
A major aspect of this program is job development which
involves contacting employers on a regular basis to identify
employment opportunities for our clients. Once employment
is obtained a Job Coach may be used to ease the transition
from the training facility to the workplace. This program
is sponsored by NC Vocational Rehabilitation and last approximately
20 days.
Supported
Employment.
This program is designed to assist clients who desire community employment, but need long term support. Components of this program include:
- Job Shadowing
- Observing someone else doing the job
- Job Sampling
- Performing the job on a trial basis
- Job Placement
- Being hired for a job
- Intensive training
- Learning a job with the assistance of a Job Coach
ADVP (Adult Development Vocational Program)
This program offers clients the opportunity to improve their job performance
skills by working on a variety of contracts procured through local
businesses and industries, or by participating in onsite enclaves which
includes janitorial, grounds maintenance and warehouse departments. Clients
are involved in instructional as well as work activities; participants are
evaluated annually. Once sufficient progress is shown, and if the clients
chooses to, referral to the community employment oriented programs is
implemented.

Personal,
Social, and Community Services Program.
A goal oriented developmental day program that provides
opportunities for clients to develop and maintain
daily living, pre-vocational, academic, social and
community living skills through a variety of methods
that includes class participation and discussion,
one-on-one instruction, hands-on-training and community
outings.

Community
Alternatives Program (CAP-MR/DD)
This special Medicaid program is staffed with trained technicians who
provide intensive individualized/group services to clients who would
otherwise require care in an intermediate facility for people with mental
retardation/developmental disabilities.
This program allows individuals to remain in their own
communities rather than residing in an institutional
setting. A variety of skills are taught depending on
the client’s individual needs.
